A site such as Thangs or Thingaverse may greatly benefit from this type of structured data, but this script takes things a step further and shows how eCommerce companies that show 3d models (furniture in this example) could utilize this. Any type of small business that embeds 3d models into their website, particularly on their product pages would also benefit from this. Early adopters of these scripts normally benefit the most from utilizing new structured data in the SERPs. From Google: Sometimes 3D models appear on pages with multiple products and are not clearly connected with any of them. This markup lets site owners link a 3D model to a specific product. I hope this does not break the Googles. …and a few more from pre-2024 This is a type that we just discovered called “TechArticle” and according to schema.org it is meant for “How-to (task) topics, step-by-step, procedural troubleshooting, specifications, etc.” It validates just fine on Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool, and we are really excited to see what type of results it can yield. Results Without a doubt this is one of the more popular types of JSON-LD markup. Results can yield a number of cool snippets in the search results. The great thing about this type of markup is that Google is always adding new features in the search results, so any future additions they add you are probably retroactively included. Note, most web developers insert this into their websites programmatically, not manually. Breadcrumbs are mainly used in (or integrated somehow with) website nav to help search engines understand the hierarchical navigation path of a webpage within a website. It represents the breadcrumb trail that shows users (and search engines) where they are in the site’s structure. Some people say do not add breadcrumb structured data to your website unless you have visible breadcrumbs on/under your nav. We will keep this here for history. For those new to this type of schema, you can use this type to release any sort of announcement of or relating to COVID-19. This includes COVID-19 announcements such as: - quarantine announcements - school or government closures - travel restrictions (airlines, government) - testing center announcements such as new locations, change of address - COVID-19 related information, statistics or maps There is a lot you can do with this. Almost any business can add a COVID-19 JSON-LD announcement to their website, but this is particularly important for schools, government and healthcare organizations. If you are finding that Google isn’t adding the snippet to the top of the SERPs, another way to get your point across would be to add the announcement to the meta description of your homepage, title tag of your homepage, or by adding a custom Google My Business post announcement. Rather than just reposting the same Job Posting JSON-LD every other site has as an example, I decided to find some “in the wild” that actually yielded some nice results. My query was for “WordPress developer” and it gave me these results: I navigated to the site, and viewed the source code. Sure enough ld+json in the source. While the code had poor formatting and lacked “base salary” (failed Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool test) Google still decided to use it. Lesson learned here: just because your code doesn’t pass Google’s tool, doesn’t mean you will be left in the dust. Because I love you all so much, I added “baseSalary” into the snippet below and made sure it passed Google Structured Data Testing Tool. Enjoy! Thus far we haven’t seen Google use this too much in the search engines, but I am guessing they will very soon. This is also the easiest way to enable “rich snippets” sometimes referred to as “star ratings” in the SERPs. As of July 2025 I recently came across this beautiful code snippet (actually part of a plugin by Damien Carbery. This will basically grab the info from WooCommerce and use a PHP function to parse and fill in the blanks inside JSON-LD. Very cool! My personal theory is they started to deprecate this feature around the same time they added it to Google My Business. The best thing you can do in 2024 with a restaurant menu is to add your menu to places like: - Google Business Profile - Open Table - or places like Checkle - your website with JSON-LD In addition to having your menu on your website and GBP, I also recommend having a PDF version of your menu available for download. Some folks still just prefer having a PDF. Keep your menu simple and mobile friendly. Avoid features, don’t make it fancy. Having a great menu can be the difference to booking a reservation or not. Going to keep it short and sweet. Roberto asked: In short, he wanted to know if it is possible to insert JSON-LD into a Blogspot. I wasn’t sure, so I gave it a try with a very old blogspot account I had laying around from the olden days. Switch from “compose” to “HTML” and insert your JSON-LD. Save your work and hit “publish” or “save.” A lot of website builder frameworks strip out so I wasn’t sure if it would pass, but low and behold it did! It isn’t ideal to keep the script inside the body, but this works. I’m not sure if it is possible to insert a script “sitewide” in Blogger, if someone knows it better than I do, let me know and I’ll update this post. We were surprised to find so many sites still using the “old” schema style. We were quite impressed with many sites implementations, and a bit underwhelmed by a few others. Either way check out what we got and let us know what you think or if there is anything else cool you think I should add. NBC News NBC news has what we consider “par for the course” markup on their site. SEER Interactive Homepage Seer Interactive also has standard and valid markup. Moz Homepage Moz has several JSON-LD Snippets on their homepage, some of which gave some “warnings” but all of it is well implemented otherwise. Business Insider’s “Best Electric Razor” Page We wanted to find a cool example of some schema that yielded a nice SERP snippet, and thought this was a great example. See “best electric razor” (or screenshot) Coinmarketcap.com’s Homepage Some pretty standard markup on the homepage, but checkout the next example for a really cool implementation. Coinmarketcap.com’s Litecoin Listing It appears as though CMC dynamically generates its json-ld, as you can see the “price” field is dynamic and reflects the current price of Litecoin. Very cool, even though it doesn’t pass Google’s validator. Showtime Anytime Web App The Showtime Anytime Web App added some search schema in an attempt to get the “search box” within the SERPs. Bonus points for comments 🙂 Basecamp Homepage Basecamp has some very well formatted JSON-LD, and a few different types to boot. Raventools Blog Post Raven has lots of different JSON-LD throughout their site, including on their blog posts. Ahrefs Blog Post Some weird stuff in this snippet, like HTML tag but that could be a computed error. Yoast Blog Post At 132 lines this is probably one of the larger JSON-LD snippets on this list. And of course they “branded” their snippet with a JS class…just lovely. Yoast Homepage Quickbooks Homepage Quickbooks has some nicely formatted json-ld, and a whole lotta “same-as’s” Cloudflare Homepage In true Cloudflare fashion, their JSON-LD is in the footer. SEJ blog post SEJ Homepage Taste of Home Grilled Turkey Burger Recipe Thought it would be cool to throw in a “recipe” type, well done! (pun intended) Ticketmaster Celine Dion: On a typical Ticketmaster page, they use Breadcrumb and obviously event markup ,and quite a bit more! Udemy Product and Course JSON-LD I scoured the web (ok I looked for about 3 minutes) looking for “course” JSON-LD and finally thought to look on Udemy. Sure enough, they were smart enough to use course snippet. Sadly, I don’t think Google uses the course type as of yet, but who knows. Just to note, while we were looking for examples we came across a few “big” sites still not using JSON-LD. Same URLs, same SEO, zero PHP. Published: 2026-04-20T12:00:00Z Updated: 2026-04-20T22:12:14.356Z JSONLD.COM has been a WordPress site since 2015 -- GeneratePress child theme, Yoast SEO, a handful of custom PHP. For a reference site where the content barely changes, that's a lot of moving parts: a database, a PHP runtime, plugin updates, security patches, caching layers. All to serve what is fundamentally a folder of static pages full of code examples. So we ripped it out. the shape of the old site 62 published URLs. 51 pages. 11 posts. 46 of the pages had JSON-LD snippets embedded as GitHub Gists. Two custom tools -- a JSON-LD generator (v2 was already client-side JavaScript) and a lat/long converter (PHP + jQuery, calling Google Geocoding server-side). Yoast SEO was doing the heavy lifting on page metadata: title tags, meta descriptions, canonical links, a full schema graph per page. Nothing about it was bad. But none of it needed to be dynamic. the goal Every URL on the old site returns the same content on the new site, every SEO tag is preserved, and no user notices a thing except the redesign. URL parity was the non-negotiable line: technical SEOs will audit this site the day it launches, and a broken link is a broken link. phase 1: recon Inventoried the OpenLiteSpeed vhost config, the active theme, the DB schema, the custom PHP, the two tools. Surprise find: the JSON-LD generator was already a self-contained ES module -- 1,100 lines of client-side JavaScript dropped into a PHP template. We could lift it into Astro as-is. The lat/long tool was the opposite -- server-side PHP making HTTP calls to Google. That one needed a full rewrite to pure client-side fetch(). phase 2: extracting the content Rather than parse WordPress's database, we wrote a Node script that crawled the live site. For each URL it fetched the rendered HTML, then used cheerio to pull out: - , meta description, canonical, robots - Every og:* and twitter:* tag - Every <script type="application/ld+json"> block (including Yoast's multi-node graph) - The .entry-content body HTML The body stayed as HTML, not Markdown -- too much content (Gutenberg divs, Gist <script> tags, custom notice boxes) would've lost fidelity in conversion. Astro's content collections happily accept JSON with a raw HTML body field. Edge case: six pages had hierarchical URLs like /event/concert/ that the old site canonicalized from flat slugs like /concert/. A recursive SQL query against wp_posts pulled the parent/child tree and fed it into the extractor. Then the Astro catch-all route emits them at the nested paths, and a .htaccess 301-redirects the flat slugs. phase 3: astro + tailwind 4 One dynamic route handles all 58 default pages. Home, blog, category archive, generator, lat/long, contact, and a test page each get their own dedicated route. The layout injects GA + GTM + the sitewide Person JSON-LD on every page, so the metadata is owned by code instead of by a plugin. phase 4: design -- terminal brutalist x retro-futuristic System monospace stack (no web fonts, zero network cost). Phosphor green + amber accents on deep near-black in dark, warm cream paper in light. CRT scanlines as a subtle CSS overlay. Every page opens with a shell prompt showing the URL as $PWD. The /examples/ grid renders each schema type as an @type identifier. Gist embeds get wrapped in a fake terminal-window chrome via a .gist::before pseudo-element. exit 0 in the footer. The audience is developers and SEOs. They view-source. So the rendered HTML itself is pretty-printed at build time via prettier, with JSON-LD blocks indented 2 spaces. The source of any page on this site should read like a manual, not like minified output. phase 5: seo audit before shipping Wrote a custom audit script that runs two passes: Mode A reads the content collection directly, Mode B crawls the built site. Caught 20 pages missing meta descriptions (pre-existing on WP, not a migration regression) and one title too long. Fixed them in a single patch. Live audit post-deploy: zero errors, zero warnings. phase 6: cleanup + go-live One bash script at scripts/pre-live/go-live-cleanup.sh git rms every WordPress file (21 paths including wp-config.php with the database password), moves the uploads directory out of the WP tree into public/, swaps robots.txt from staging to production, regenerates llms.txt + llms-full.txt, and rebuilds. Then: mv /var/www/html /var/www/html-wp-old-$(date +%s), cp -r dist /var/www/html, reload OpenLiteSpeed. About 30 seconds of downtime, masked by Cloudflare's edge cache. results - Same URLs. 62 live URLs, 100% match against the old Yoast sitemap. Six flat-slug pages 301 to their hierarchical targets. - Same SEO. Every Yoast-generated JSON-LD graph preserved verbatim. Every canonical, OG tag, Twitter card carried over. GA/GTM untouched. - Lighthouse 99. Static HTML served from OpenLiteSpeed on the same Vultr box. No CDN origin shield yet -- just static files. - Smaller. 25MB of source, versus WP's 250MB install plus a 38MB MySQL dump. - Faster builds. npm run build takes about 23 seconds for 63 pages plus a full site-wide pretty-printer pass. - Git-native. Every page, every snippet, every metadata change is a diff now. The site has a changelog. images WordPress scattered uploads across /wp-content/uploads/{year}/{month}/ -- a deep tree with 331 files across a dozen year subdirectories. We flattened the whole thing into /img/ (every filename was already unique across the tree) and 301-redirected the old paths so Google's image index doesn't blink. Future plan is to re-sort by year once the site starts collecting more visual content; for now it's a flat folder and that's fine -- jsonld.com isn't image-heavy, the content is code. what's next The Gist embeds still load from GitHub at runtime. They're the obvious next thing to rip out -- every JSON-LD example becomes a file in src/data/snippets/ and gets rendered inline via Astro's Shiki highlighter. We've got a side-by-side preview showing what that looks like next to the current Gist embed. After that, the contact form wires to n8n. Eventually the blog posts (currently JSON with HTML bodies) convert to Markdown for easier authoring. Published: 2019-04-20T20:56:08Z Last updated April 20, 2019 by Patrick Coombe If you’ve been around the SEO community for a while, you’ve probably noticed that the latest and greatest structured data type is JSON-LD. In 2016 at SMX East in NYC, Gary Illyes at Google confirmed that Google was expanding their existing support for JSON-LD across more categories within Google search engine. If you go to any conference right now, you’ll most likely hear a talk about schema markup, structured data, and of course JSON-LD. Google is already very vocal about their support for JSON-LD and has even included it within their developer documentation suite. In fact, they didn’t just include it in their documentation but as of December 2015, it appears as though they’ve switched it to their default structured data type. In addition to their developer documentation, they also mentioned JSON-LD in their AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages Project) which John Mueller of Google touted “the hottest new thing for 2016.” As of December 2015, Google has mandated that all article schema must contain the author tag, which they recommend using JSON-LD. Cyrus Shepard from Moz noticed this and felt it was necessary to tweet about it. There are a number of other ways Google search has been using JSON-LD recently. They’ve recently opened up access to the Knowledge Graph via Freebase via Google Knowledge Graph API and guess what it spits out? JSON-LD. In January of 2016, they’ve added support for JSON-LD in review snippets. This was a big move for JSON-LD in the fact that review snippets are one of Google’s more popular types of snippet. What Type of Schema Does Google Want You To Use: In March of 2019, John Mueller of Google did a Webmaster Hangout (video) and was asked the following: Someone asked the following question: “What type of Schema markup is preferable for Google? John Mueller answered: “We currently prefer JSON-LD markup. I think most of the new structured data that are kind of come out for JSON-LD first. Published: 2025-07-01T10:52:16Z Last updated July 1, 2025 by Patrick Coombe JSONLD.com recently jumped on the LLM bandwagon and with that we noticed our SEO plugin Yoast added llms.txt support, that is cool! Being that the llms.txt file can loosely be considered “structured data” we feel like it fits the topic of our blog. I did a little digging into how Yoast does this and this is what I came up with. What is the purpose of LLMs.txt file in general In short, and in my opinion, the purpose of the LLMs.txt file is to highlight the most important content. A robots.txt file will generally list all content on a website, an LLMs.txt file will highlight the most important, unique content. How Yoast Generates LLMS.txt file Content Selection Algorithm: Yoast SEO includes the 5 latest updated posts/pages/custom post types in the llms.txt file (posts are only included if they have been published in the last 12 months) and includes the 5 categories/tags with the most content pieces attached to them. I think that is pretty cool. Update Schedule: This file will be updated weekly by a scheduled action and the file is generated and refreshed weekly, no coding or manual work needed. Smart Content Filtering Yoast respects your existing SEO settings – it only includes content that’s set to appear in search results and excludes content marked as noindex. Custom post types and taxonomies are included based on your Search Appearance settings. Conflict Handling If you already have a manual llms.txt file, Yoast won’t overwrite it, giving you the option to use either the automated generation or maintain your own custom version. Suggestion to Yoast Yoast already has a “cornerstone content” feature which has been growing on me in recent years. Cornerstone content is basically “important content” – why not include cornerstone content in the llms.txt file? I’d also like to maybe see inclusion in Yoast’s bulk editor to check which pages I want to include. For many people, contact & about info is a necessary part of llms.txt. The system is designed to be completely hands-off once enabled, automatically curating your most relevant and recent content for AI tools without any ongoing maintenance required. My opinion of our LLMs.txt file Overall I am not happy with our llms.txt file. There are only 5 URIs and if it were me I would include at least our top 15 URLs. JSONLD.com is a very popular site and sometimes gets 100’s of visitors per day to many different pages. I think if we are going to continue to use LLMs.txt as a standard, I will roll my own in the future. Our llms.txt file includes our most recent post and 3 of our most popular posts. This is partially my fault for (I guess) not updating the posts as regularly as I should…but some posts just don’t need updating all that often, especially on a site like this. It properly implements local business schema with geographic coordinates, service areas, and contact information. It includes rich content markup for individual service pages. It even cites Wikidata entries for each city! Overall it is really well done. My question, is it too much? Is it overkill for a small business? A few weeks ago, I got about 10 of these warnings all at once. In every single one of the cases it was due to an extra comma at the end of the JSON-LD syntax. After getting the email, I checked out one of my hobby sites to see what could be done. GSC tells me I’m missing an end curly brace or object member name. That seems highly unlikely. So I grab all the code from the site, and throw it into Google Structured Data testing tool. I can see right away this doesn’t conform to the new standards. The comma has to go. Remove the comma, instant validation. After making the fix, I “validated the fix” and it took a bit of time, I believe overnight. And finally, a validated fix: That’s it! TLDR; If you get a random “unparsable structured data issues detected on…” from Google Search Console, it is definitely a syntax error, and most likely an extra comma at the end of your script.
